If you put your mind to you, you can absolutely learn salsa in 4 months! Find a good teacher and take some classes. If you can afford it, take a few private classes as well (they work wonders).

Good luck!
References :
Depending on your determination and dedication, it is possible to learn some of LA style salsa moves in 4 months. The styling itself (body movement, etc) could take longer, depending on your natural abilities.

Reality is that you won't be an advanced dancer, but you should be able to develop a significant repetoire and really be comfortable with the dance if you practice consistently for four months.

To start you off:

Salsa Music is 4/4 time and you dance on 3 beats and hold on 1 beat.

LA style is dance "on 1" which means movement is initiated on the first beat, and there is a pause on the fourth beat.

For the lead the generic basic is:
Start with feet together
Beat 1 - step forward on left (leaving your right foot back - in place)
Beat 2 - step in place on the right
Beat 3 - step back on the left (bringing your feet back together)
Beat 4 - no foot movement
Beat 5 - step back on the right (leaving left foot in place)
Beat 6 - step in place on left
Beat 7 - step forward with the right (bring feet back together)
Beat 8 - no foot movement

For a follow:
Start with feet together
Beat 1 - step back on the right (leaving left foot in place)
Beat 2 - step in place on left
Beat 3 - step forward with the right (bring feet back together)
Beat 4 - no foot movement
Beat 5 - step forward on left (leaving your right foot back - in place)
Beat 6 - step in place on the right
Beat 7 - step back on the left (bringing your feet back together)
Beat 8 - no foot movement
References :
Professional Salsa/Dance instructor for 12 years.
